DIGives Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive
Thanksgiving Week at DIG: Serve the Turkey & Pass the Pumpkin Pie - Part 1
As we head into Thanksgiving break, we’re serving up a fun, purposeful week at the gym! This will be our first DIGives event of the club season. Stay tuned for future events. This is open for all Academy Jrs., Academy and Club teams!
Week starting Sunday, November 16th - Thursday, November 20th — “Serve the Turkey & Pass the Pumpkin Pie”
Our theme this week centers around serving and serve receive as we prepare for the first tournaments of the season. We’ll blend competition, gratitude, and giving back—DIG style!
Canned Food Drive
We’re collecting canned goods all week to support the North Texas Food Bank.
-
We will weigh each team total cans brought in.
-
Top 3 teams with the highest total weight will win a prize!
-
Collection boxes will be outside the gym—let’s see which team can serve up the most generosity. Each team will have its own box. You can drop off canned items for your team as late as Thursday 11/20 night. We will be weighing team boxes Friday morning. The winning teams will receive their prize at their next practice.
-
We have group a goal of 500 lbs. of collected non-expired food items (so make sure to bring in cans to help us reach our goal). If we hit our goal, DIG will add another 500 lbs. to the total and will deliver 1000 lbs. of food items to the North Texas Food Bank before Thanksgiving.
Team Spirit Practices
At each team’s last practice of the week before Thanksgiving break (it will be noted on your team calendar), players are encouraged to wear their favorite football team jersey or shirt (college or pro) instead of their regular practice gear.
Let’s see which fans show up the loudest—Cowboys, Longhorns, Aggies, Sooners, Red Raiders, Bears, Mustangs, Horned Frogs or maybe even a few Eagles!
Theme Focus: Serve the Turkey, Pass the Pumpkin Pie
We’ll spend part of our week’s training to sharpening serving accuracy and serve-receive consistency. Expect competitive serving games, pressure drills, and a few surprises to keep things festive and focused.
We’re thankful for our incredible athletes, coaches, and families who make DIG such a strong community. Let’s finish November with great energy on the court and even greater hearts off of it.
We hope everyone has a very Happy Thanksgiving Holiday!
See you in the gym,
The DIG Volleyball Club Staff
Thanksgiving Week at DIG: Serve the Turkey & Pass the Pumpkin Pie - Part 2 : The Results
Thank you to everyone who participated in last week’s activities! The football jerseys were a huge hit, and the extra serve and serve-receive reps will pay off as tournaments begin.
We are especially grateful to everyone who contributed to our canned food drive. Our original goal was 500 lbs. to donate to the North Texas Food Bank—but thanks to your generosity, we blew past it by 6x and collected 3,000 lbs. of canned and boxed non-perishables. We are genuinely overwhelmed and so proud of our community.
As promised, the top three teams earned a special prize—and the results were impressive:
3rd Place — DIG 16 Black
191 lbs. collected — Way to go, Coaches Bobby & Lauren and and crew!
2nd Place — DIG 11 Black
247 lbs. collected — Congrats, Coaches Katie & Habby and team!
1st Place — DIG 14 Blue - Anne
319 lbs. collected — Huge shout-out to Coaches Anne & Tamara and their athletes!
Each of these three teams will receive a pizza party before or after practice. We’ll coordinate scheduling with your coach.
But that’s not all—
Because the response was so incredible, every team that collected at least 50 lbs. (20 teams total, including our top 3) will receive a Tiff’s Treats cookie break during their first week of practice after Thanksgiving. Well earned!
As we originally mentioned, DIG would add 500 lbs in canned food if we met our goal. Well as a result of our awesome results, DIG VBC has donated $1,000 in addition to the food we delivered Friday. That equates to over 2,000 lbs in canned food. So that brings our grand total to 5,000 lbs. of food for the North Texas Food Bank.
Thank you again for showing what DIG Family truly means—service, kindness, and big hearts.
We hope you all have a very Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving.
With gratitude,
DIG VBC
